Rick Simpson Trio

A regular sideman on the London scene, the award-winning pianist and composer Rick Simpson, known for his wildly original compositions strips it back to "an audience-friendly" trio format "whilst still pushing the boundaries" in the artists own words. Supported by hugely talented band members Dave Whitford (bass) and Will Glaser (drums) Rick maintains his signature adventurous approach by not discussing set orders in advance. The trio  improvises into different pieces by mixing up originals and music from their favourite composers whilst moving fluidly between energetic rhythmic interplay to soft, hymn-like passages or rumniations on the American tradition. No two gigs are alike and often the head-solo-head format is eschewed in favour of open, exploratory formats.
