Who Owns the Sky? is Ronan’s debut release under his own name. The music is rooted in the sax trio tradition, filtered through his own range of personal influences and experiences. These include his childhood studies in classical piano and his deep appreciation of music by Aphex Twin, the Claudia Quintet, Coltrane & many others. He comments: ‘In the lead up to making this record I was listening to a lot of incredible trios- Chris Speed, Andrew D’Angelo, Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Happy Apple, Aka Moon. All the beautiful music spun around in my head and these songs came out.’

The record is out on Fresh Sound New Talent, whose roster includes artists such as the Bad Plus, Robert Glasper, Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Miguel Zenon and many others.

Ronan’s project Twospeak toured the UK in 2019, supported by Arts Council England, followed by the critically acclaimed release of their first LP in the spring of 2021. ‘Exciting to listen to.. Twospeak don't sound like anyone else on the vibrant British jazz scene’ - Matthew Ruddick (Kind of Jazz). Their flourishing international reputation was confirmed as finalists at Jazz Juniors festival in Krakow October 2021, where they were awarded concerts at international jazz festivals EGA jazz, NiCa jazz and Ural Terra Jazz.
