Last Show: Sunday 21 st July 2019

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

LAST MINUTE ADDITION: Joining True Strays for their Blues Train show as part of spectacular double header will be Roosevelt Collier. No-one plays the pedal steel guitar like Roosevelt ‘The Doctor’ Collier. Drawing from blues, rock and gospel, his own description of the electric potency of his sound is surely the best: “dirty funk swampy grime”.

Rising stars of the UK Americana scene, True Strays are excited to bring their high octane rhythm and blues fuelled, good time vintage roots rock roll to PizzaExpress. Whether leading festival line-dances or sparking late night revelry, the True Strays bring 21st Century Rhythm and Blues with anthemic choruses and a healthy measure of the heat of the swamp. Their energetic and joyous live shows have already made them a must-see headline act in Bristol. In only 11 months since their inception, True Strays have released two singles, completed an independent UK tour and played 10 UK festivals last summer. The standout performances were playing at Boomtown, in the main arena at Shambala after 65 Days of Static and playing to a packed tent at Greenman with the Chai Wallahs. Order a Bourbon and get some extra Piri Piri on that pizza, you're gonna need it.

ROOSEVELT COLLIER

Pedal and lap steel guitar ace Roosevelt Collier, so proficient he’s affectionately known as “The Dr,” released his solo debut, Exit 16, on GroundUP Music. It’s a potent mix of blues, gospel, rock and, in his words, “dirty funk swampy grime,” as overseen by producer and Bokanté bandmate Michael League (from the Grammy-winning Snarky Puppy). Brought up in the House of God Church in Perrine, Florida, Roosevelt built his “sacred steel” guitar prowess alongside his uncles and cousins in The Lee Boys, known for their spirited, soul-shaking live performances. On his own, Collier’s become a sought-after talent both on record and on stage; at festivals, he is a regular “Artist at Large,” performing alongside musical luminaries in the fields of rock, blues and pop, including the Allman Brothers, The String Cheese Incident, Buddy Guy, Umphrey’s McGee, Los Lobos, Robert Randolph, the Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and the Del McCoury Band.
