Following on from their album release tour last year, Kanan makes another welcome visit to the UK. Young London alto saxophonist Sam Braysher has recently been heard playing with Jorge Rossy (of Brad Mehldau Trio fame), Barry Green’s Sextet, the London Jazz Orchestra and ECM recording artist John Warren’s Nonet. Michael Kanan is a real master with an exquisite touch, a world-class interpreter of standards who has collaborated extensively with jazz royalty including Jane Monheit, Jimmy Scott, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Peter Bernstein. Golden Earrings, Braysher’s debut, features takes on almost-forgotten treasures by Victor Young, Duke Ellington and Tadd Dameron, as well as one original composition. The disc also marked the first time that Fresh Sound New Talent, the iconic Barcelonabased record label, which launched the careers of Brad Mehldau, Robert Glasper, Ambrose Akinmusire and Kurt Rosenwinkel - had produced an album by a British bandleader. Expect a fresh and swinging approach to the
timeless material of the Great American Songbook from these wonderfully melodic improvisers in an intimate and conversational small group setting.
They are joined by a dream London rhythm section: Steve Brown (Scott Hamilton, Barry Harris, Art Farmer) on drums and Dario Di Lecce (Stacy Kent, George Garzone, Sara Dowling) on double bass.
