PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Sammy has been playing New Orleans jazz for some 65 years, his first professional engagement being with the legendary Ken Colyer in 1960. Whilst in New Orleans in 1962 he took lessons from George Lewis, on whom he had based his clarinet style from the outset: his alto sax style is reminiscent of New Orleans alto man John Handy.

The long list of New Orleans musicians and their bands he has worked with demonstrates the high regard he has from them. He is accepted in their city, where he still frequently works, as one of their own.

His band members, who have mostly worked with him throughout his career, are among the very best in this style and ensure the true experience of A Night In New Orleans.
