Love, Marriage & All That Jazz

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Sunday 29 th July 2018

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

Critically acclaimed singer Sarah Moule and pianist Simon Wallace take a wry look at matrimony and the perils of working with one’s partner – two things they’ve been involved in together for about eighteen years. Songwriters have always loved to explore what goes on behind closed doors and in this show Moule & Wallace take great joy in flinging those doors wide open. Moule’s exceptional range of expression and Wallace’s virtuosic arrangements breathe life into music from the Great American Songbook to Johnny Mandell and Kirsty MacColl via Shel Silverstein and the lyrics of Simon’s collaborator of many years Fran Landesman.

'Cool, elegant, immaculate' - The Observer

'Massive talent and perfect technique...Sarah Moule stands in the very top flight of UK vocalists. Every Wallace solo was understated story telling perfection, with each note seeming to exist in acres of space' - LondonJazz.com

Following six years as featured vocalist with The John Wilson Orchestra Sarah Moule has been pursuing a solo career and recorded four acclaimed CDs which introduce over 35 songs written by legendary American lyricist Fran Landesman and British composer (Sarah’s husband) Simon Wallace. She is acknowledged as one of the foremost interpreters of this repertoire and often performed with Landesman, including at the 2010 Southbank Centre concert ‘An Evening With Fran Landesman’ which featured Simon Wallace, Gwyneth Herbert, Bob Dorough and Imelda Staunton. Sarah’s CDs feature some of the greats of contemporary British jazz alongside her regular trio of Wallace (piano), Mick Hutton (bass) and Paul Robinson (drums). She has sung with many different ensembles, from symphony orchestra and big band to piano and voice duo. Sarah has also developed shows featuring the repertoire of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee and wrote the one-woman show ‘Songs For Scarlet Women – The Story of the Femme Fatale’. She is proud to have been one of the late Bob Dorough’s Bobettes during his final two UK tours.

Simon Wallace has had a 40 year international career as a composer, pianist, musical director and producer. For 30 years he and Simon Brint wrote music for some of Britain’s most popular TV shows including French & Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous. He wrote over 300 songs with the American lyricist Fran Landesman (described by The Observer as ‘one of the finest song-writing partnerships’), some of which are now being described as standards and have been recorded all over the world. His concert works include two symphonies commissioned for Thai royal state occasions. He has been musical director, arranger and producer for Britain’s leading jazz singers Clare Teal, Ian Shaw, Claire Martin and Barb Jungr. He is Head of Composition at the LCCM.
