Ben Smith and Jimmy Brewer met at an event organised by Joan Armatrading for the acts she had chosen to support her on her 2015 tour. Although they originally planned to just write together, they soon realised that their playing styles and voices complemented each other and they started playing together after their inaugural gig supporting Joan Armatrading in front of a thousand-strong crowd.

They also sang backing vocals on Ralph McTell’s recent album, ‘Hill Of Beans’.

They have also performed at the UK Americana Awards in London and were chosen to showcase at AmericanaFest
in Nashville in 2016. Smith and Brewer have recorded two sessions for Bob Harris's Under the Apple Tree.

After releasing a live album in 2017, they released their debut studio album, Another Shade Of Smith & Brewer at
the end of 2019. They followed this with three instrumental albums and a charity Christmas E.P. in 2020 and an
electric album in 2021. They will be recording and releasing another studio album in 2021.

Throughout lockdown they have been working closely with a local venue to put on live-streamed and socially
distanced gigs.
