"The saxophonist and his trio explore the border between jazz and hip-hop, switching fluently between styles in their restless search"

The Guardian

Award winning alto-saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile musicians in both the British jazz and hip hop scenes. Undoubtedly one of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University, he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic – including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, two UMA Awards and a MOBO for best Jazz Act in 2003. In October 2007, he won his second MOBO Award, at the O2 Arena, London where he was announced as the winner in the Best Jazz Act category - fending off stiff competition from the likes of Wynton Marsalis. He is also a regular and much-loved broadcaster on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Now, presenting the pick of contemporary jazz, and among the musicians joining him in this rare London appearance is his Radio 3 co-presenter Emma Smith with her musical director Jamie Safir. Emma won the Musicians’ Company award for young jazz musician in 2013, and has seldom looked back since, in a packed musical career that has involved her own projects as well as travelling the world as a member of the Puppini Sisters. This evening is being recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
