PizzaExpress Live (Maidstone)

It’s a big year ahead for acclaimed Grammy-nominated singer, Stacey Kent.  With the release this autumn of her most ambitious project yet, her first orchestral album, and another worldwide tour, Stacey returns to Maidstone with her 5-piece band, featuring songs from the new album, I KNOW I DREAM: The Orchestral Sessions, (SONY/Okeh). This beautiful collection of songs, arranged by Tommy Laurence, includes Bossa Nova classics, Chansons, American Standards, as well as original songs from Stacey's husband, the saxophonist, composer and arranger, Jim Tomlinson, alongside his lyricist partners, the award-winning novelist, Kazuo Ishiguro, portuguese poet, Antonio Ladeira, and Nashville based, Cliff Goldmacher, with whom Jim composed the title track. Even in an expanded orchestral landscape, Stacey and her group preserve their remarkable and instantly recognisable sense of intimacy and delicacy.

"Ms. Kent embodied the essence of saudade as persuasively as any of her Brazilian idols. As she threw back her head and crooned softly, you had the sense of a woman with nothing to protect, living in the moment and dreaming out loud.’

Stephen Holden, THE NEW YORK TIMES

With career sales approaching 2 million albums, Stacey’s 11th studio album, “I Know I Dream,” is a sure to be a highlight not only for its breathtaking beauty but also for its assured expressiveness.

“I Know Dream” follows “Tenderly” (2015), an intimate collaboration with Brazilian music master, Robert Menescal, and follow-up to ”Marcos Valle & Stacey Kent Live” recorded with Marcos in Rio, in celebration of his 50 years in music. Stacey's previous albums include, the Brazilian-flavored, “The Changing Lights,” (2013),  “Dreamer In Concert” (2011), recorded live in Paris at La Cigale, her all-French, “Raconte-moi,” (2010), and the Platinum-selling, Grammy nominated, “Breakfast on the Morning Tram,” (2007). Throughout her career, Stacey’s band has featured Jim Tomlinson (sax & flute) whose songwriting partnership with Kazuo Ishiguro has formed an essential plank in her repertoire.

Stacey has been a PizzaExpress Live Maidstone favourite for many years, her appearance is not to be missed!

"Stacey's singing never lets us forget these songs are about people. Her protagonists come to life so fully in her voice, you sometimes have to remind yourself the CD has no visuals. She has, in fact, much in common with today's finest screen actors who, assured of the camera's ability to pick out detail, portray complex shades of personality, motive and feeling through subtle adjustments of face and posture....here's a great jazz diva of our age." - Kazuo Ishiguro
