Alexandra Ridout was crowned the winner of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016 at the age of 17. ”We were enchanted by Alexandra’s presence as a musician, her sound, but I think most importantly there was a relationship with the blues and swinging that sounds important in her playing” – Julian Joseph, Chair of the jury of the BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016. Alexandra is noted in ‘The shape of jazz to come: who to look out for in 2018’ in Jazzwise magazine “Trumpeter Alexandra Ridout was an outstanding winner of the BBC young musician jazz award of 2016 and just keeps on growing as an artist.” In November 2018 Alexandra won The British Jazz Awards ‘Rising Star’ category.

“Her incredibly sweet, subtle and well-controlled tone….absolutely owning the stage and the room…melodic, fluent and engaging…great sound, and an emotional content to her playing, but again with superb control even in very high register…..Stevie Wonder’s Golden Lady, showed that she has similar expertise on flugelhorn”

Jazz Journal

Alexandra has had her music played on various Radio 3 show’s, Jazz FM and at the end of 2016 was the featured soloist on a BBC live recording of Kenny Wheeler’s ‘Sweet sister Suite’ which was broadcast throughout Europe including Radio 3’s Jazz Now Show. She performed twice in the 2018 Proms –as a featured guest for ‘40 years of The BBC Young Musician’ and with NYJO.

She is delighted to have been chosen by British Jazz luminary Clark Tracey to perform in his ‘Tribute to Stan Tracey’s Hexad’ during 2017 and from early 2018 to be a member of his latest Quintet who are to be seen regularly performing all over the country and have recently released their album  ‘No Doubt’ .

Tonight she brings her extraordinarily talented young band to The Pizza Express. The quintet members all met at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz Department around 3 years ago and have been delighting audiences  across the country  at Jazz Festivals and Clubs ever since. Their passion for the music and outstanding musicianship produce an incredibly mature band sound that belies their tender years. They are equally at home playing hard swinging jazz, contemporary jazz, poignant ballads and solid funk tunes.

“ A simply thrilling gig at The Verdict… one of the fieriest young groups imaginable… that blew away a capacity Verdict crowd”
