Dave Kelly, founder member of The Blues Band with Paul Jones, Hughie Flint & Tom McGuinness thirty five years ago. When The Blues Band started back in 1979 Dave was already a seasoned blues artist with a reputation across the world. In the early sixties he started performing acoustic, mostly Mississippi style blues, in folk clubs.
On returning from the States he joined The John Dummer Blues Band as lead vocalist and guitarist. It was with The Dummer Band that he made two UK tours backing John Lee Hooker and one with Howlin Wolf also played with Freddie King. After leaving the JDBB late in '69 he went back to solo performing and toured and recorded with the legendary Eddie 'Son' House.
Since then he has also worked with, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells also The Allman Brothers Band as guest, as well as continuing to tour with The Blues Band. He won the British Blues Awards acoustic artist of the year for five consecutive years and so is kicked up to the House of Lords and not entered any more.
The Blues Band are now making their farewell tour. More recently he has toured in acoustic duos/trios with Paul Jones, Maggie Bell, Long John Baldry as well as regular tours with Christine Collister and The Travelling Gentlemen.
The Dave Kelly Band of course play the blues, but not exclusively, it is also a vehicle for Dave to pursue his other much loved musical formats. The DKB also follow this eclectic formula – blues, soul, country and many of Dave’s own compositions which by definition do not fit into The Blues Band’s repertoire.
