The Jazz Of Dudley Moore with the Chris Ingham Quartet

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Tuesday 8 th May 2018

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

After the most successful concert and new album launch last year at PizzaExpress, followed by a sell out U.K. Tour and starring in the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival, Chris Ingham and his quartet, make a much requested return to Dean Street, for another celebration of the wonderful jazz music of Dudley Moore. The beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was not only one of the UK’s most dazzling and swinging jazz pianists but also a composer of wit and depth. A true accompanist and big band pianist, Dudley rose to prominence in appearances and recordings with the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra, he then led an outstanding trio on stage, in clubs and concert halls and latterly on TV.

“Outstanding quartet...inspired solo forays...nifty and concise arrangements"

LONDON JAZZ NEWS

For all the acclaim he received as a comic actor, and his hilarious and lovable personality, the most interesting thing about Dudley Moore's reputation is how undervalued he is as a jazzman and composer. Chris Ingham's tribute to Dudley frames the context of his quartet's latest, and very welcome project, honouring the music of a prematurely lost and sadly missed jazz hero. The inimitable Dudley was a purveyor of quirky, imaginative jazz originals and the witty music for Bedazzled and 30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia, nuanced movie scores far superior to the movies themselves.
