The Soul Essentials present a relaxed evening of the best soul and pop music, performing a carefully curated playlist including hit songs from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. The Soul Essentials are led by vocalist Hannah Castleman and pianist Mike Paul-Smith. Together with guest instrumentalists they perform a carefully curated playlist of the best soul and pop music and their soulful sounds set the perfect tone for a relaxed evening of live music and pizza. Expect to hear songs including Midnight Train to Georgia, A Sunday Kind of Love and Another Star with the odd jazz standard and modern pop hit included for good measure.

Hannah Castleman is an award-winning jazz and soul singer. She is one-third of internationally touring vocal harmony trio The Spitfire Sisters, who she has been singing with since the band started in 2011. Hannah is also one of the Directors of Winchester Jazz Festival which runs every September throughout Winchester city centre.

The Soul Essentials are part of Down for the Count, who have performed at London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Twinwood Festival, Cadogan Hall and many other venues throughout the UK and abroad. Down for the Count's Swing Orchestra and Motown Collective line-ups are both regular performers at the PizzaExpress Live venues, and now the band's Soul Essentials line-up is excited to be bringing their brand new show to PizzaExpress Holborn this August.
