Threebop Sings Ellington
Last Show: Tuesday 8 th October 2019

Duke Ellington was a revolutionary voice in jazz history. He was a composer, arranger, pianist and bandleader, with his compositions ranking as some of the most significant musical works of the 20th century. He has been a key influence on all members of Threebop; so much so that when we were discussing whose music we should feature in our third project, he was a natural first choice that excited us all equally. Ellington’s rich harmonic palette and soaring iconic melodies have stood the test of the time and we can’t wait to put our spin on them - from household classics to lesser-known gems. Although this may seem somewhat of a departure from the Threebop classic bop sound, these new arrangements strive to uncover a new take on vocal arranging, whilst still maintaining the group’s roots of the vocalese tradition.
