One of Canada’s most recognizable voices in jazz, Tia Brazda’s jazz-pop gems and speakeasy style have made a sparkling impression from Montreux to Montreal, paying homage to the golden era while remaining daringly modern. Her music has been described as “a hip pastiche”, “a walking catalog of 20th century jazz styles”, and “as good as it gets”, with No Depression magazine (USA) saying she is “truly an original”. Brazda first burst onto the international scene in 2012 following the release of her electro swing inspired song, “Cabin Fever” which reached #1 on the iTunes Canada Jazz chart and led to a debut UK performance at the Bestival festival and a follow-up tour throughout Europe. Her sophomore release in 2015 also found critical success, once again topping the jazz chart and was ranked the #5 best Canadian Jazz releases of 2015 by Jazz FM 91. Furthermore, it was called one of the best of the decade by Italy’s Rai Radio 1 and a remix from the album was named one of the best of 2016 by Craig Charles of BBC Radio. In 2018, Brazda released “Daydream” where she explored sounds of bossa-nova and cool jazz, once again securing the #1 iTunes position and followed up with considerable airplay and extensive touring throughout the USA prior to the pandemic. Her brand new album, “When I Get Low”, recorded remotely during lockdown, is a collection of beloved songbook standards. The recordings managed to span across the continent, with the album notably featuring both a duet with Canadian singer/actor, Alex Bird, from the coldest north of Ontario as well as the vibraphone of Jason Marsalis, recorded in sunny New Orleans. Tia Brazda has performed at such festivals as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (main stage), Bestival (UK), Iboga Summer Festival (Spain), Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and San Jose Jazz Summer Fest (rated "Best of the Fest") among many others.
