“Tom’s the tops”

Jools Holland

Tom Waters has recorded with music legends such as The Rolling Stones, Ray Davies, and Ronnie Wood. He has made a name for himself on the touring circuit playing with bands such as The Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Mick Taylor, Mungo Jerry, Broken Social Scene and Nine Below Zero.

Between the age of 13 and 16, Tom’s education was unconventionally fulfilled by travelling the world with his dad, the boogie woogie piano ace Ben Waters.  This provided him with the opportunity to play with second line bands in Chicago (Southern Comfort Brass Band), pop bands in Canada (Broken Social Scene), join locals to play traditional music in Argentina and Uruguay and to sit with Keito Saito in Tokyo.  Tom even had a solo show on Broadway (The Iridium).

Tom’s music is hugely influenced by Ray Charles’ sax players from Hank Crawford to David ‘Fathead’ Newman and he has studied their style, sound and plays songs in a similar idiom. He also draws influence from David Sanborn and Stanley Turrentine. Tom is one of England’s exponents of Blues/Jazz saxophone with a wide range of versatility and creativity in his playing and he is currently studying at The Royal Academy of Music.
