Event Has Passed

Last Show: Thursday 11 th April 2019

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Following successful shows from Binker Golding’s band, Mark Kavuma and Where Pathways Meet, Heads Up returns with two of the finest emerging bands on the London jazz scene. Kicking off the evening will be the Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Frontline, a young 9-piece collective followed by a performance from Nihilism, performing music from their new EP 'Exposition'.

Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Frontline

The nine-piece Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Frontline developed out of the award-winning Tomorrow’s Warriors Artist Development Programme based at Southbank Centre. Led by saxophonist Aleksandra Topszewska under the tutelage of Gary Crosby OBE, they’ve gained a reputation for playing upbeat jazz standards, with contemporary arrangements of well-known classics.  Last year they performed at Love Supreme Festival, Field Day and Ealing Jazz Festival, as well as supporting Monty Alexander at Cadogan Hall in the London Jazz Festival.

Nihilism

Formed in Summer 2016, Nihilism has already made its mark on the Underground London music scene. A 5-piece made up of sax, violin, keys, drums, and bass. Their influences range from Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk & Soul to Grime. This culmination of genres will introduce to a soundscape you’ve never visited before. Their debut acclaimed Extended Play ‘EXPOSITION’ brims with funk, energy and unapologetic rawness. The EP has already been played on various radio stations, including Jazz FM.
