Ubunye

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Wednesday 11 th August 2021

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Ubunye (one ness) unites singers from Kwa Zulu Natal with musicians from Leeds in an inspirational blend of styles and cultures. High energy beats and traditional vocals sounds combine with Jazz and Gospel and morph into new contemporary styles. At times it's energetic at other times delicate and quiet. High energy African beats and traditional sounds morph into more contemporary African musical styles. All that and the jazz skills of this established quartet. Bring it on!

“It’s a soulful, goose bump inducing experience.”

Manchester Jazz Festival

Ubunye echoes the ever evolving musical and cultural influences of its core artists. They hail from the various corners of the world including the South Africa and the U.K.—collaborating in a closely knit circle to create an integrated sound.

Ubunye’s repertoire is varied and includes fusions of Jazz, Afro-Jazz, Neo-Soul as well as Traditional African styles with a touch of contemporary flare. They sing original songs in English blended with the beautifully click riddled Zulu and Xhosa languages too.
