Winnie sings Ella

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Tuesday 15 th October 2019

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

Winnie Greer and her quartet take us through the amazing story of the Life of Ella Fitzgerald through poetry and music. Ella’s quintessential flair and style will be shown through some of her well known standards in a traditional style or with a twist. Learn about how this amazing jazz icon was able to come from such a humble beginning to become the 'Lady of Song'.

Winnie Greer is a jazz singer of some 20 years who has honed her craft tutored by some great jazz artists e.g. Lee Gibson, Pete Churchill and Anita Wardell. She has worked with her Band over the last year or so to create this homage to Ella Fitzgerald. Winnie has always been an ardent fan of Ella Fitzgerald and she was delighted when after her Big Band show in 2016 at the Millfield Theatre, North London, Lee Gibson was noted to have said “A complete star, absolutely sensational, musically immaculate …….the British equivalent to the wonderful Ella!.” These comments encouraged Winnie to put together this homage to the wonderful Ella. Winnie is very fond of the swing style of Ella but also likes to shake things up by trying alternative genres and creating some intimate settings to well known standards. If you wish to attend an evening of high quality jazz music ( with a few twists!) and learn about Ella Fitzgerald’s rise to stardom, this is the evening for you.
