The mere mention of the term 'Four Brothers' flashes one to a familiar and fabled edition of Woody Herman’s Orchestras 'Second Herd', often called 'The Four Brothers Band'. Its concept and sound was derived from Jimmy Giuffre’s piece entitled 'Four Brothers', a three tenor and one baritone saxophone voicing. It was first recorded December 27, 1947 with Stan Getz, Herbie Steward, Zoot Sims and Serge Chaloff respectively. As a signature power tune, the Herman big band has been playing it each night for over 70 years.
