Album Tour

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Sunday 28 th April 2019

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

With Yuko’s debut album ‘Verde’, she expresses her absolute love of both Brazilian and contemporary jazz music with a Japanese influence. After a successful tour performing at renowned jazz clubs in Brazil and Japan, she celebrates the highlight of her UK dates at Soho's PizzaExpress Jazz Club. Her interpretations are full of improvisation, with musical shades of light and colour in a minimalistic and playful style. She is inspired by the Japanese philosophy, "wabi sabi" which is the pursuit of embracing both the imperfection and transience of life and she believes that this flows through her music. Yuko's music will include her own vivid interpretations of compositions by era-defining Brazilian artists such as: Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti and Ivan Lins, as well as some of her own co-written originals.

Jazz Journal

Yuko is a warm and sensitive jazz and Brazilian music vocalist based in London. She came to London 20 years ago and has been performing at prestigious clubs both in Japan and the UK after completing her Masters in Jazz at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.  She was also the winner of the jazz vocal competition, the 6th Angela Carrington Award.

Meditative, delicate and colourful, Yuko's album ‘Verde’  has captured a fleeting moment in an ongoing journey, suffused with not only longing and melancholy but a warm sense of hope. The title of the album, meaning ‘green’ in Portuguese, toys with the notion of an un-matured state and the beauty found in incompleteness and imperfection. ‘Verde’ is both the story of her voyage to far-off lands and an individual rediscovering of her roots.
