Eli & La Evolución started out inspired by the modern Havana sound of large-format timbaorchestras and soon found its own London-infused voice, featuring electric guitars and synths overpowerful, distinctively Cuban grooves. La Evolución has been bringing their entirely originalrepertoire (written and composed by Correa herself) to the stages of the UK since 2011, including a7-year uninterrupted monthly residency at Ronnie Scotts Upstairs and an array of performances atleading UK festivals including a headline show at Glastonbury's Glasto Latino stage in 2019.The powerful yet intricately weaved arranging style of Correa's timba-based repertoire lets thelistener dance to the groove without letting go of any of the compositional complexities of timbamusic – even nodding occasionally to soul and reggae music and modern jazz pianists such asRobert Glasper and Herbie Hancock. Correa's lyrics make a point of highlighting the femaleexperience from a place of celebration, liberation and empowerment; changing the gender narrativein Latin music lyrics is an important part of her vision.
