For the final date of their 2023 UK album tour, acclaimed trumpeter Hugh Pascall presents music from his forthcoming quintet album Viewfinder at PizzaExpress Jazz Club, alongside music from his 2022 album Borderlands with his quintet of star musicians from the London scene. An exciting, expressive and unique performer who displays the strong influence of iconic musicians like Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter, Hugh brings a lyrical, vibrant and modern sound to post-bop jazz, where melodic, swinging and modal explorations are complimented by atmospheric and beautiful ballads.

An award-winning trumpeter and composer, Hugh studied Jazz at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Paris Conservatoire. In February 2023 he was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) by the Academy’s honours committee in recognition of his significant achievements and contribution to UK jazz.

In 2022 his quartet (featuring this well-established rhythm section) embarked on a major tour of the UK, playing 20 dates around the country for his debut album as bandleader - Borderlands - to critical acclaim. For the final 5 dates the quartet was joined by the celebrated London saxophonist James Allsopp and from then on, the quintet was formed. Having toured extensively in 2023, the group have recently recorded their forthcoming album Viewfinder, out soon.

As a featured sideman, Hugh’s performed and recorded with a huge variety of artists, playing at festivals and jazz venues across the country and throughout Europe. Recent projects include recording with New York guitarist Peter Bernstein as a member of the David Ferris Septet and performing in Europe with The Last Poets. He’s also currently a member of Tony Kofi’s Inside Straight and of Aidan Pope’s Octet.
