One of the UK’s most exciting saxophonists, vocalists and composers, Kim Cypher returns to PizzaExpress Live with her brand new ‘Love Kim x’ album tour. Officially launching her new album, due for release on 3rd May, this is the perfect opportunity to be among the first to preview tracks from the album performed ‘live’. Inspired by the funkier side of jazz and having studied alongside US saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, Kim’s style of performance is best described as ‘funky saxophonist meets 1940′s jazz singer’. Kim performs an eclectic mix of music spanning many genres with a quirky, jazzy twist together with her own original material, all packaged up in a captivating performance and warm stage presence.

Following her highly successful debut album (‘Make Believe’) tour which included sell-out shows across the UK including PizzaExpress Soho, Kim has a series of prestigious jazz venues lined up for her exciting 2019 tour showcasing tracks from her new album and launched in February with special guest Pee Wee Ellis. Kim returns to PizzaExpress with her killer tour band featuring some of the UK’s finest musicians. With glowing reviews and feedback from her ‘live’ performances and with much praise for her music, this promises to be a fabulous night to be remembered!

Kim has performed in the UK and New York alongside some of the finest jazz musicians including David Newton (14 times winner of best pianist in The British Jazz Awards), Pee Wee Ellis, Clive Morton (long time sideman to Frank Sinatra and Jamie Cullum’s ex-tutor), Liane Carroll, Andy Sheppard, New York guitarist B.D. Lenz, cabaret star Anita Harris to name just a few.

The band line up for this special night is quite simply outstanding and features some of the most highly regarded musicians on the UK jazz scene:

Chris Cobbson – Guitar

Outstanding guitarist and composer Chris Cobbson has worked with leading musicians from all genres including jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine, soul star Sheila Ferguson, Imelda May, Afro rock band Osibisa plus tours with the James Brown Horns (Pee Wee Ellis, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley).

John-Paul Gard – Hammond Organ & Piano

John-Paul studied music compostion at Coventry University. During this time he was also offered a place at the famous Jazz college, Berklee Music College in the USA. John-Paul's style is heavily influenced by Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff and Joey DeFrancesco, Errol Garner, Oscar Peterson, Harry Stoneham, Jerry Allen, George Flurey, Tony Peglar and Alan Haven. Recent credits along with with his own band 'John-Paul Gard’s Pedal Mania', include The Nigel Price Quartet, Antony Kerr, The Eddie Martin band (Blues), The Lee Goodall Trio, Mike Britton Trio, The Esmond Selwyn Organ Trio as well as an appearance with Swedish guitarist Andreas Olberg organ trio at The IGG Festival. A great success that John-Paul is currently part of is The Jon Dalton Organ Trio based in Venice Beach USA which has recently released the album 'Warm ghosts in a Cold World', climbing the Jazz charts in the USA. After a lifetime of influence from the great Jimmy Smith, John-Paul Gard recently recorded his own album 'Come on Rita' featuring original work with his trio.

Mike Green – Double Bass

After securing a First Class (Hons) Degree from The Birmingham Conservatoire Mike found himself greatly in demand playing Double and Electric Bass. He has appeared on Prime Time National TV with household names such as Jamie Cullum and Dame Shirley Bassey. Mike has built up such an impressive portfolio over the years, it is impossible to list everyone he has performed alongside. To name just a few…the late Johnny Dankworth, Jean Toussaint (USA), Soweto Kinch, Imelda May, Simon Spillett and Remi Harris.

Mike Cypher – Drums

The other half of team Kim Cypher, Mike has supported Kim on her musical journey, always performing at her side and hugely contributing to musical arrangements and production of her musical recordings and videos. Having mastered his craft of drumming at a very young age performing within the strict discipline of the Brass Bands and working regularly with top local musicians, Mike has quite a list of musical achievements including performances alongside Gilad Atzmon, Anita Harris, Art Themen, Keith Tippett, Damon Brown, Tomasso Starace, Simon Spillett, Greg Abate, Eddie Parker, Duncan Eagles to name just a few.

With a phenomenal line up like this performing a fabulous selection of music, this is without doubt a night not to be missed!
