Respair marked their two year anniversary last autumn with a debut show at the 2023 EFG London Jazz Festival in conjunction with the Cockpit Theatre's 'Jazz in the Round' programming, garnering many plaudits for their technical, emotional and atmospheric dexterity in the process. Respair marked their two year anniversary with a debut show at the 2023 EFG London Jazz Festival in conjunction with the Cockpit Theatre's 'Jazz in the Round' programming, garnering many plaudits for their technical, emotional and atmospheric dexterity in the process. Come the new year, they kicked off 2024 with a performance at London's Southbank Centre's as part of its FutureTense curation.

Reflecting on the ensemble's two years in motion, Respair spent much of 2022 writing, gigging and recording - delicately workshopping and honing their sonic identity - and, in 2023, independently released two singles and two live videos (including one with MOBO-Award-nominee Yohan Kebede of Kokoroko). Shows followed at the Outernet’s Lower Third, Next Door Records, Crazy Coqs Jazz Club and Hackney’s Paper Dress Vintage - all culminating at London's jazz festival.

Respair draws on their diverse influences and backgrounds to create at various points grooving, arresting and oftentimes haunting soundscapes. Centred around their fascination with jazz's rich, expressive vocabulary, their sound has expanded, deftly interweaving itself with poetry, the hypnotic psychedelia of electronica and the emotional intimacy found in blues and soul - the effect of which leaves audience members bewitched, beguiled and transported.

Come for the journey...stay for the healing.
