Inspired by a wealth of vintage funk, soul and roots music, The Wax Preachers are a hard hitting, horn-led, 7 piece instrumental funk band from London.
With 2 sell-out 45s on Detroit’s own Funk Night records, The Wax Preachers stay true to their vintage roots, using time-honoured DIY recording and production techniques, self recording and producing all their music at bass player Fergal McBride’s Echo Ray Studio in North London.
Known for their blistering live shows, their sound effortlessly transports audiences back to the golden era of funk while infusing a modern twist. The Wax preachers have ignited stages at Secret Garden Party, Shambala Festival, Smoked and Uncut Festival opening up for none other than Jools Holland, as well New York’s finest Carlton Jumel Smith at Brixton’s legendary Hootananny.
The band themselves are an eclectic combination of London’s formidable funk and soul scene, with Smith & The Honey Badgers’ Fergal McBride and Tom "Flash" Gorton from on bass & trumpet, Soul Grenades very own Milan Hawkins and Ray "Aladdin" Lakhan on Baritone Sax and percussion, Full Tilt Collective and new kids on the block A Day on Venus’ Ollie Jarvis on Tenor Sax, Dave Forbes on guitar and the bands founder Matt Devine on Drums
With their infectious grooves, spellbinding melodies, and irresistible energy, this instrumental funk band is an unstoppable force. Dancing shoes required.
