Bassistry Live

Bassistry is a dynamic vocal-led Nu Jazz band, that Blues & Soul Magazine’s, 5-star review, described as a "mix funk grooves with Latin Rhythms and pulsating electronic, and beautiful contemporary soundscapes." The band features some of London’s finest musicians, who have toured and recorded with artists as diverse as Paloma Faith, Professor Green, Plan B, Tom Jones and Grace Jones. “Jamiroquai-influenced funk”, “beater out of the Amy Winehouse school of Brit pop/soul”, "slight Massive Attack territory, the vibes of the Brand New Heavies, Incognito and all sorts” are all magazine quotes used to pinpoint Bassistry’s music. The point is, Bassistry music is truly eclectic. Not to be missed.

Bassistry is the brainchild of Marcel Pusey. 'What the Hell Do You Call This?' their last critical acclaimed album was co-producedwith Ivor Novello Award-winning Cassell 'The Beatmaker' (Plan B, The Streets) and Emmy- nominated electronica composer Robert Logan (Taxi to The Dark Side, Grace Jones, Brian Eno). Marcel used the contrasting musical influences of the producers to lend new texture and infuse many different styles into his music and their live show.

Bassistry’s debut self-titled album was released back in 1996 on German label Okapi Records. This self- produced, jazz-funk introduction was largely instrumental, influenced very much by the M-Base movement.

In 2005, Pusey emerged with a new Bassistry line-up, inspired by jam sessions in South London’s renowned music venue, The Bedford. Marcel was astounded by the level of talent that turned up at the sessions on a weekly basis, inspiring him to gather together some of that talent together and record ‘In Time,’ a vocal-led jazz-soul album, inspired by the likes of the Brand New Heavies, though a little grittier. Tracks on ‘In Time’ have featured in countless TV programmes around the world.

Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café, Dingwalls, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, Bassistry, have played many of the great London venues. Now playing PizzaExpress Live they will take you through a range of emotions.
