Gareth Lockrane Big Band Return

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

With the pandemic forcing us to abandon their 2020 concert, it’s a much requested Autumn 2021 return, for the third Dean Street concert by the Gareth Lockrane Big Band. Mention Big Band Jazz and memories flood with the great American sounds of Basie, Ellington, Dorsey, Evans, Jones & Marsalis. No longer! Add to that list the name Lockrane. It’s one of the world’s most outstanding bands & comes from this side of the pond. This sensational 19-piece British Big Band, led by the original writing and arranging of the brilliant jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane, return to PizzaExpress Live Dean Street for another spectacular Sunday Lunch time concert, after their two sold out previous concerts.

The audience to the last concert were enthusiastic. “Just wonderful” “Totally original” “…compelling sounds” “ What an amazing British band of talent”.

The band will play not only the music from their  album, “Fistfight At The Barndance”, rated a top five jazz album of the year in the British Jazz Awards, and short listed as Best jazz album in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, but also new compositions and arrangements by what has been called “Probably the best Jazz Big Band since Thad Jones & Mel Lewis” – The Hoste of Jazz

Gareth’s Band features a combination of established British jazz greats with Academy trained younger musicians, in multi layered arrangements scored for 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 reeds, guitar, piano, bass, percussion and drums in addition to Gareth on the entire  flute family.

This is a “must get to” concert for all music lovers for whom the sound of the big band ticks all the boxes.
