Hot Orange big band returns in a special performance celebrating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Duke Ellington, featuring the amazing vocal talents of soprano Sara Brimey-Davey (from the legendary Swingle Singers). A rare chance to hear the outstanding arrangements by Bob Hammer of some of Ellington’s most idiosyncratic works, along with music by following generations (including Charles Mingus) who were directly influenced by “The Duke”.

Sara Brimer Davey was born in East Tennessee and studied Music Education and Music Performance at East Tennessee State University.  In 2018 she received a “Distinguished Alumni” award from her university for work she has done across the globe.

Since moving to London to join The Swingles as high soprano in 2009 she has worked on the Sky TV show Sing: Ultimate Acapella, she has sung on the backings of over 30 films including Wonder Woman and the Hunger Games, and she has workshopped and coached vocal groups and individuals worldwide.  After leaving The Swingles in 2018, Sara has continued singing and coaching and is currently living just outside of Cambridge enjoying the English village life.

Now celebrating its 24th year on the London Jazz scene, Hot Orange big band has established an enviable reputation for top class performances of modern jazz orchestra repertoire, mixing Jazz, Fusion, Funk, and Latin genres. Co-lead by USA vibraphonist Dave Hammer and (Loose Tubes) trombonist Richard Pywell, Hot Orange has performed at Soho’s Jazz-On-The-Streets Festival, at the 606 Club (Chelsea), at The Café In The Crypt (St. Martin-In-The-The-Fields), Hideaway Club (Streatham), the More London Festival (The Scoop), The Forge (Camden), the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Vortex (Stoke Newington/ Dalston), plus the Ealing Jazz Festival. 

Guest Artists performing with Hot Orange include international vocalist Nina Ferro, distinguished pianist/composer/broadcaster Julian Joseph, Latin Percussion legend Roberto Pla, and the leading Los Angeles-based guitarist Richard Smith.
