Last Show: Saturday 13 th August 2016

The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

Norma has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years. Always inventive: constantly developing new approaches, whilst retaining the best of what went before, she started singing jazz standards; moved on to explore the use of the voice in an experimental way; evolving her own wordless approach to improvisation and becoming a leading lyricist setting words to great jazz melodies.

“Right now, she is at the peak of her form … there is no jazz singer in the country to touch her.”–

Alyn Shipton, The Times

A multi music award winner over many years, most recently last year’s Parliamentary Jazz Award  for Best Jazz Vocalist, she was awarded the MBE for services to music. Over the years, her associations with contemporaries such as John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler and Steve Swallow stand out alongside collaborations with the great American pianists Jimmy Rowles and Fred Hersch – and she continues to explore fresh ground.
