“The finest New Orleans band never to come from Louisiana”

Rocking Magpie

Named after the New Orleans classic “Iko Iko” the Ikos are led by British piano supremo Dom Pipkin. Pipkin has performed all over the world, both as a solo artist and with artists as diverse as David Byrne, Paloma Faith, and Morcheeba. Jamie Cullum says “I can’t hold a candle to this guy”, and godfather of modern New Orleans funk drumming Zigaboo Modeliste of the Meters says “Dom brings the whole New Orleans thing to the UK. So good!”

Pipkin is a regular performer in New Orleans with appearances including the prestigious “Piano Night” at the world-famous Jazz and Heritage Festival, alongside such luminaries as the late Allen Toussaint, Jon Cleary, and Ellis Marsalis. The Ikos are regular performers at Ronnie Scott’s club in London, and have headlined festivals up and down the land. Their sets mine the music of Dr John, Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair, the Meters and the whole catalogue of classic Nola RnB and funk, mixing the classics with Pipkin’s own compelling songwriting and stretch out numbers for the band.

Playing in the trio are Jonny Gee (bass) and Jimmy Norden (drums) . Discover what Paul Jones of BBC Radio 2’s Blues Show describes as “Lighting up the British blues and RnB scene”
