Wolfert Brederode Trio

Event Has Passed

Last Show: Wednesday 21 st November 2018

PizzaExpress Jazz Club (Soho)

Pianist Wolfert Brederode is being recognized as an authentic and poetic voice in the current music scene and for his innovative and recognizable work in which jazz and classical music regularly intersect. With his new trio, which he formed two years ago, Brederode turns moderation into an art form. The emphasis is not on lengthy solos; instead, the notes he plays are carefully considered and he rather focuses on atmosphere.

“The quietly burnished session… is another intelligently distilled yet poetically open outing from a pianist who can traverse a beguiling range of seemingly understated yet potent mood and atmosphere"

Michael Tucker/Jazz Journal

After releasing the well-received albums Currents and Post Scriptum earlier, released on the leading label ECM, the Dutchman surprised everyone this spring 2016 with the album Black Ice, released on the same label.

For his trio Brederode renewed the collaboration with bassist Gulli Gudmundsson and roped in Dutch top drummer Jasper van Hulten. Both are creative and solid players who are highly esteemed for their contributions to various projects and bands. More than ever before, Brederode excels in composing clear melodic lines and in creating tension with few means.

Gudmundsson and Van Hulten complement the soundscapes seemingly effortless with their subtil and dynamic playing. But it is foremost the combination of original compositions and the transparant interplay, which makes this an absolutely world-class trio.
